Subject: Brief Explanation of WATCHDOG Function
Date: January 23, 1991
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: The file server has a function (the watchdog timer) that
will check any connection that has been idle for five
minutes to see if it can get a response from that
connection. If it cannot, it will then, at one minute
intervals, attempt to get a response from that connection.
If at the end of 10 minute period (15 minutes total) it does
not get a response, it will close the connection.
COMMENTS: If you are interested in seeing watchdog work, there is a
program on NetWire that will monitor watchdog called
WATCHDOG.ARC in Forum NOVA LIB 06. (Watchdog comes with a
explanation file and will work on NetWare 286 v2.0 and
above.)
